Sokobanja, as a spa with good climate conditions dates back from the Roman period. Later, the Turks built “hammams” (Turkish baths) on the ruins of the Roman thermae. After the Second World War Sokobanja achieved a full affirmation and became one of the leading spas in former Yugoslavia regarding visitors and capacity for natural and medical treatment.
The thermal waters and climate are natural healing factors in Sokobanja. Curative thermomineral waters are slightly alkaline and radioactive with temperatures from 28oC to 45oC. The climate of Sokobanja is moderate continental with certain features suitable in particular to people suffering respiratory problems. It has very positive effects on nervous system overwhelmed with stress.
